Memphis Attorney Wm. J. Bragg, Dies Saturday

William J. Bragg, 70, long-time Memphis attorney, died Saturday in Houston where he had been hospitalized for the past several months.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m Monday from the First Baptist Church with Rev. Fern A. Miller, pastor, officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Glenn Norman of Amarillo.

Interment was in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Spicer Funeral Home. Graveside services were conducted by the Memphis Masonic Lodge AF & AM No. 729.

A native Texan, Mr. Bragg was born December 21, 1888, in Lewisville, Denton County. He came to Hall County with his parents at the early age of 12, arriving here in 1901.

Mr. Bragg was married to Miss Asa Maey [sic] Best August 10, 1916 in Fort Worth.

Mr. Bragg has been active in civic and community affairs here for more than 50 years. He served on the City Council for several years and served as County Attorney.

He was a past master of Masonery and president of the 100th Judicial Bar Association. He was secretary of the Woodmen of the World Lodge.

An active member of the Baptist Church, Mr. Bragg was president of the Garrett Memorial Sunday School Class and also served as assistant teacher.

Pall bearers were Ottie Jones, Mack Dunn, Henry Hays, John L. Burnett, Marvin Duren and Ed Foxhall.

Survivors includ [sic] his wife, Mrs. W.J. Bragg of Memphis, two sons, Dr. William J. Bragg Jr., of Houston and J.W. (Dub) Bragg of Amarillo; one daughter, Mrs. D.N. Barry of Hartford, Wis., 7 grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Molly E. Bragg of Silverton; three brothers, Ed Bragg of Lewisville, Elmo Bragg of Odessa, Bailey Bragg of Farmington, N.M.; three sisters, Mrs. George Edmonds of Happy, Mrs. Annie Stevenson of Silverton and Mrs. Eula Phillips of Compton, Calif.
