Francis was born Aug. 12, 1921, in Moville, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Helena (Sanders) Porter. Francis served in the US Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945. He married Myrtle Anderson on Aug. 24, 1949, in New Ulm. Following their marriage they farmed in Deerfield Township, Steele County. Francis was also a heavy equipment operator for many years. He retired in the mid-1970's and at that time they moved to Medford. Francis was a member of the V.F.W., the American Legion and the United Congregational Church of Medford.
He is survived by his two daughters, Marge (Mike) Steinbauer, Owatonna and Linda (Danny) Thomas, Medford; three sons, Harold Porter, Raymond Porter, and Richard Porter, all of Iowa; a sister; 15 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Myrtle on Oct. 23, 1990, and by 13 brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, at the Medford Funeral Home (310 Central Ave E.) and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 18, at the Medford Congregation United Church of Christ. Interment will be in Owatonna Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the Steele County Funeral Detail. Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.
