Born under Denmark rule and under Denmark when he left. In 1850, Hans served in the Schleswig-Holstein Danish war. Later, he emigrated from Hamburg to Hull, England, thence to Liverpool. From there, he came to New Orleans, where he arrived May 7, 1853. From New Orleans, he came by boat up the Mississippi to Davenport, Iowa. He was employed in brickmaking and eventually owned a brickyard in Davenport. Also farmed, until 1864, when he came to California by way of Panama. Arrived San Francisco in March 1864. Henry, Hans and Peter bought a ranch in 1864 for $3000.00 after visiting Rohwer in in the Dixon area. Bought out Peter in 1867 for $3000.00 and bought out Henry in 1869 for $5500.00. Family records have birth as November 20, gravestone has November 23. Mr. Timm was naturalized in Davenport, Iowa and cast his first presidential vote for Abraham Lincoln.
