Edwin Henly Thedford, 66 of Woodville, Texas, passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at Tyler County Hospital after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Funeral services were held on January 16th, at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Gore Cemetery in Silsbee, Texas.

Edwin was born August 4, 1943 to Walter S. & Aline McGlothlin Thedford in Luling, Texas.

He grew up in Sour Lake and graduated from Sour Lake High School. He spent four years in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict as a security policeman. While in the Air Force, he worked in the original astronaut program and in security guarding people such as Lyndon Johnson on flights to Vietnam. He then joined the Silsbee Police Department, later working for the Kountze PD, and Hardin County Sheriff's office as a deputy. Ed later became a long distance truck driver and retired in 2002 when he was diagnosed with cancer.

Ed is survived by his wife of 40 years, Harriet Crain Thedford of Woodville; son, Bert Thedford & wife Bridgett of Woodville; three grandchildren, Dakota, Edwin
Christopher and Bayleigh Thedford all of Woodville; brother, Walter S. Thedford, Jr. & wife Robin of San Antonio; sisters, Patricia Snead of Georgetown, Delaware and Carolyn Owens of Sacramento, California; and numerous nieces and nephews.
