She was born in the Hopkins Community of Ware County. She was the last surviving child of 15 born to the late Edward Obediah Barber and Minnie Strickland Barber. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Julian E. Walker who had served as Pastor of Kettle Creek Southern Congregational Methodist Church for 23 years.
She was a retired salesperson with the Best Rexall Drugstore after many years of service. She was also a former waitress with the Plant Avenue Café and the Waycross Restaurant. She was a member of Kettle Creek Southern Congregational Methodist Church where she had been active in all church activities for many years.
She is survived by her son, James I. "Jimmy" Walker, Sr (wife Cindy) of Waycross; three grandchildren, James Ira Walker, Jr (wife Linda) of Waycross, Michael Walker (wife Susan) of Waycross, and Julianna Hudson (husband Dustin) of Blackshear; seven great grandchildren, ten great great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives, and a close friend, Tammy Brown of Waycross.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday (May 1, 2012) at Kettle Creek Southern Congregational Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Kettle Creek Cemetery. Employees of Satilla Care Center are asked to gather at the church at 1:40 PM Tuesday to serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Monday at Music Funeral Home.
