son of the late Gerald, Sr. and Lenora Morgan Avery. Floyd graduated from Canton High School in 1954. As a young man, Floyd assisted his father at the Avery's General Store, formerly of Grover. He also worked part time at the Midway Truck Stop in Roaring Branch. It was at the Midway where he met the former Virginia Stone. They soon married on June 8, 1957 in Grover. Following their marriage, Floyd accepted employment with the Pennsylvania Railroad. He held the position for 16 years until his partial retirement in 1973. It was then that Floyd established the Our House Restaurant in Grover and, along with help from his family, devoted himself to its daily operation.
