"Suicide Ruled In Death Of Farmer"
A suicide verdict has been returned in the death of a Jacksboro farmer who was found dead in his barn Tuesday afternoon of this week. The victim was Roy Bartley, age 62, of Jacksboro, Route 2. County Coroner Jimmy Jones said that the death was caused by a pistol shot in the mouth. The gun went off twice, Mr. Jones reported, the second shot probably being caused by reflex action. The weapon used was a 38 pistol of the squeezer type with a five-inch barrel, the coroner stated. A note was found in Mr. Bartley's shirt pocket, telling the family to sell off the livestock, Mr. Jones said. Mr. Bartley is survived by his wife, Utella; two daughters, Mrs. Harry Lee Warren of LaFollette, and Mrs. John Williford of Detroit; four sisters, Mrs. Hodge Claiborne of Jacksboro, Mrs. Don Claiborne of LaFollette, Mrs. Bill Queener of Jacksboro, and Mrs. Meather Wood of Jacksboro; and two brothers, Hobart Bartley of Jacksboro and Archie Bartley of Barberton, Ohio. Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 2:00 p.m. at Cross and Berry Chapel with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery. Cross and Berry Funeral Home in charge of funeral arrangements.
