John M. Cowell was born Jan 1st, 1851, and departed this life Dec. 13, 1891 at his home in Whiteley township near Lone Star, Pa., aged 40 years, 11 month and 13 days. He was in failing health for almost two years. He suffered under that dreaded disease consumption hoping to secure relief. He made a trip through the far west and south leaving Sept. 6, 1890, and returning to his native home in May last, being but little, if any, improved. He was a kind father and devoted husband, was also a good neighbor and respected citizen. He bore his affliction with great patience, never a murmur escaping his lips. He was wholly resigned to God's blessed will, and expressed a willingness to depart and be with Christ. All was one that could be done, both by medical aid and loving hands, but all could not stay the cold hand of death. He was an honest and upright man in all his dealings, having friends wherever he had acquaintances. He leaves a wife and eight children, most of whom are young. On Monday, December 14, a large concourse of relatives and friends assembled together to do respect unto his memory. Funeral talks were delivered by Revs. G. W. Morris and W. G. Barren, at 2 o'clock, and the remains were laid to rest in the family burying ground, to await the resurrection of the just. He was a son of Solomon Cowell, deceased, and Eliza, his wife. He leaves a mother, one brother and two sisters.
