Death of an Estimable Lady.

Died, at her residence in Bellevue, La., on Saturday evening, June 18, 1887, Mrs. MAGGIE THOMPSON, wife of Mr. A. R. Thompson; aged 33 years, three months and eight days.

Mrs. MAGGIE THOMPSON, daughter of J. E. and E. G. ADGER, was born in Fairfield District, S. C., March 10, 1854. December 24, 1873, she was united in wedlock with Mr. A. R. THOMPSON and together they have lived happily until her death, surrounded by all that goes to make up the sum of earthly bliss. But this stainless life of rare loveliness and tender grace and beauty is ended. All the skill of physicians and all of the devoted attention of fond husband and loving mother, relatives and friends, could not restrain her. Tenderly cared for, she bore the long months of pain with great patience and gentleness, till, wearied and quite worn out she fell asleep. Here where she lived, and where she was known and loved by all, there was sorrow in every heart when the news of her death was told. The hands that were ever busy to please, the willing feet that walked so often on errands of love, are at rest forever, and the happy home is darkened by the shadow of an irreparable loss.

Led by a hand to us invisible, she has crossed, without danger, that stream upon whose other shore is a beautiful land of light and peace and joy - for she had long ago knelt at the feet of Him whose voice once stilled the surging billows of dark Galilee, and welcomed Him as her guide and Savior.

We sons and daughters of earth are used to death. It its [sic] around and about and within us. It is garnered in the sunshine, scattered in the air, and wafted by the winds. The wall of the mourner mingles with the air that we breathe, and a melancholy pines beneath the wing of thought. The aged and the young, all go side by side to the silent city that skirts the boarder land of our mundane life. But never are we so awed in the dread presence of death, as when it strikes down the young, the blooming, the beautiful and useful in the flowery prime and full vigor of life.

MRS. THOMPSON will be sadly missed by all who knew her and enjoyed her friendship and acquaintance. She was charming in person, brilliant in mind, and amiable in disposition. In the home circle, in social life, and everywhere, she was a model and ornament. The bright charm of her presence, the tender grace of her manner, the genial influence of her converse, and the glorious sparkle of her splendid mind, will be sadly missed by all who knew her. She was a kind and good woman, a devoted wife and mother and an affectionate daughter - faithful unto death. She leaves a husband, three children, am other, three brothers and many relatives and friends to mourn her death. The bereaved husband, children, mother and brothers have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in their great sorrow.

Rev. A. R. Banks preached the funeral sermon to a large congregation of sorrowing relatives and friends at Cottage Grove cemetery last Sunday evening, and tenderly and lovingly kind friends laid her to rest, and tender hands decorated her grave with the flowers she loved so well.
