Bryan Arnold Dies; Greentop Businessman

A life-long Schuyler county resident and well-known businessman, Bryan P. [sic] Arnold, 84, of Greentop died Saturday night (Aug. 16, 1980) at 10:30 in the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield, Iowa. He had been in failing health the past few months.

The son of Thomas Sanford and Arminda Byrn Arnold, he was born in Schuyler county near Downing on Aug. 11, 1896. On June 26, 1918 at Kirksville, he married Mabel Kelley who preceded him in death in February 1961. On Aug. 5, 1962, at Kirksville, he married Irene Shinn who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Maride) Elam of Rt. 5, Kirksville, and Mrs. Joe (Jenalee) Goeke of St. Louis; one step-son, William W. Shinn of Kansas City; six grandchildren and four step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one nephew.

Mr. Arnold was rural mail carrier on Rt. 1, Greentop from 1918 until 1965. He was also part owner with Otto Peterson in the Chevrolet Garage in Greentop and Kirksville for 50 years, retiring in 1972.

During World War I he served with the United States Army from Sept. 18, 1916 until Dec. 7, 1918.

Mr. Arnold had been a member of the Greentop Christian Church for 62 years and was currently serving as president of the board.

At the time of his death, Mr. Arnold was a board member of the Schuyler County State Bank in Lancaster and a board member of the Northeast Missouri Area Agency of Aging.

He was a charter member of the National Association of Retired Civil Service Employees, Chapter No. 787; a charter board member of Schuyler County Water District No. 1 and a charter member of the Schuyler County Historical Society. For many years, Mr. Arnold served on the Schuyler County School Board.

Mr. Arnold was a 50 year member of Greentop Lodge No. 636, A.F. and A.M.; Caldwell Chapter No. 44 and Council No. 53 R.A.M. of Kirksville and Moila Shrine Temple of St. Joseph. He was a charter member of Emerald Ray Chapter No. 158, Order of the Eastern Star, Greentop.

The body is at the Dooley Funeral Home in Queen City where Masonic services will be held this evening (Aug. 18, 1980) at 7:30.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon (Aug. 19, 1980) at two o'clock in the Greentop Christian Church. The Rev. Archie Cooper of Kirksville and the Rev. Kim Elliott, pastor of the church will conduct the services. Burial will be in the Greentop cemetery.

The body will be at the funeral home until noon Tuesday when it will be taken to the church. The casket will be closed at the funeral hour and not reopened.

Bearers will be: Eldred Palmer, Kenneth Palmer, Owen Kollar, Raymond McBee, Bill March, Joe March, Leo Funk and Max Gregory.

Honorary bearers will be: Earl Glassburner, Orville Johnson, Horace Cooper, Herman Hocker, Basil Riley, Earl Peterson, John Robinson, Claron Palmer, Bob Erwin and Otto Peterson.
