Robert Chessman Herkins, age 83, of Brookville, Oh., passed away Sunday, February 8, 1998 at his residence following a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease.

He was preceded in death by his parents William Herkins and Iva (Jefferson) Pfeffer in 1978, his wife Louise L. Herkins in 1997 and a son Thomas F. Herkins in 1968.

A 1932 Oakwood High School graduate and 1937 graduate of The Ohio State University Law School, Bob was an attorney for 54 years maintaining a private practice as well as a practicing member of Lair, Herkins, Lair & Wiseman law firm in Dayton.

The Dayton Bar Association honored him for his 50+ years of service.

He served 25 years as a member of the Dayton Draft Board.

Robert was a member of Brookville Community United Methodist Church, he served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during WW II, was a member of VFW Post 3288, Brookville and was a 50 year member of Brookville Lodge 596 F&AM.

He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, William and Mary Herkins, Columbus; daughter, Bindy Herkins, Reynoldsburg; grandchildren, Jennifer, Robert and Amy Herkins, all of Columbus; close family friends include Dora Frieszell, Lewisburg, Oh., Mary Kaye and Dale Bieler, Brookville, Charlotte Young, Brookville, Deo Utz, Pyrmont, Oh., Dr. and Mrs. Jack Halsted, Centerville, Oh., Max Stamper, Oakwood, Oh., Leona English, La., Bernice Shields, Cincinnati, Mary Alice Lowe, Dayton, Phil and Arlene Macy, Ariz., Betty Leen, Vandalia, Ray and Grace Walther, Cincinnati, Ruth Wiseman, Centerville; cousin, Virginia Stafford, Centerville; as well as countless other special relatives and friends.

A Service of Celebration will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, February 14 at the Community UMC, Brookville with Pastor Gordon Brown and Rev. Lysander Nelms officiating. Interment in Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the GILBERT-FELLERS FUNERAL HOME, Brookville. Masonic service.
