Mary Elizabeth Bryant was born in South Carolina to James Richardson Bryant and Gemina Dillard Bryant. She was the sixth of 12 children born to this union. She married Anderson Lively in 1833. To them were born 10 children. The first 9 were born in South Carolina: Carter, Martha Ellender, Jordan, Eliza, Barbara, Richardson, Arrelia, Rosannah, and Sarah. Then the family moved to Izard County, Arkansas where the youngest son, Reuben was born in 1854. Between 1854 and 1860 her husband, Anderson died.
Carter and Jordan joined the Confederacy. Carter was killed in the Civil War while Jordan was listed as "sick at home". In the 1870 and 1880 censuses Mary Elizabeth and her children were all living in Milam County. Later she moved to Richland with her son and daughter-in-law Reuben and Texanna (Crow) Lively where she died in 1899.

1. Carter was married to Louiza with 2 children-James & Reuben in the 1860 census in Izard County. No info about the family after Carter dies.
2. Martha Ellender married James Clark, had 4 children, Mary Elizabeth Clark (died before the 1870 census), Lucy Josephine, Wilborn, & Ella. Martha is buried in Locklin Cemetery.
3. Jordan married Lee Knight. They had 3 sons who lived to adulthood. Jordan and Lee are buried in Locklin.
4. Eliza married James Clark after Martha died. (Martha died in February, 1871 and Eliza married James in April, 1871). She died in 1875 and is buried at Locklin. She and Martha share a tombstone.
5. Barbara married Jim Howerton and then Davis Wilson. They are buried in the Millersille Cemetery in Erath County.
6. Richardson married Narcissa Fletcher. He is buried in Locklin. On the probate record there are 4 children listed: Eva, Luther Calvin, Annie and Richard (4 months old but no additional information for him). Later Narcissa married G. B. Moore.
7. Arrelia married William H. Barclay. They are buried in the Locklin Cemetery.
8. Rosannah married Greenville Moore. In the 1900 census she is a widow living in Milam County. Rosannah is buried in the Greenwood Cemetery in Waco, McLennan County. Greenville is believed to be buried in the Moore Cemetery in Milam County.
9. Sarah married John Wesley Bryant, son of Joab Bryant (Mary Elizabeth's brother). They are buried in the Chilton Cemetery in Falls County.
10. Reuben married Texana Crow and later Alice Franklin. He and Alice are buried in the Millersville Cemetery in Erath County.
