Harold R. McConkey, 52, 609 Dewey Ave., died at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 22, 1970) at S. Tenth St. Unit, Guernsey Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
A psychiatric aide II at Cambridge State Hospital for 24 years, he was born June 25, 1918 in Cambridge, the son of Mrs. Maude McKim McConkey, Cambridge, and the late T.E. McConkey. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Mr. McConkey leaves his wife, the former Juanita Uplinger whom he married Oct. 4, 1956; two daughters, Jacqueline and Martha McConkey, both of Cambridge; four sons, Spec. 5 Harold Dale McConkey, serving in Vietnam, Russell Eugene, Philip M. and Michael McConkey, all of Cambridge; one grandchild; one sister, Mrs. Helen Buckey, Cambridge; three brothers, Ernest and William, both of Cambridge, and Gordon of Springfield. Two sisters and one son are deceased.
His first wife, the former Louise Smith, died in 1947.

Services set Saturday for H.R. McConkey
Funeral services for Harold R. McConkey, 52, 609 Dewey Ave., will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Scott Funeral Home with Brig. William S. Murtaugh and Maj. Harry Sault officiating. Burial will be in Northwood Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.
A psychiatric aide at Cambridge State Hospital for 24 years, he died Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 22, 1970) at Guernsey Memorial Hospital, S. 10th St. Unit, following a brief illness.
He was a member of the Salvation Army where he was active in all its programs. He often conducted memorial services at the Citadel for servicemen who had died, and was a teacher of the Adult Sunday School class there. He helped with the Christmas program of the Salvation Army and assisted in other works about the city such as in times of disasters or fires.
A U.S. Army veteran he leaves his wife, two daughters, four sons, one grandchild, one sister, and three brothers. His first wife, one son and two sisters are deceased.
