He was the founder of the undertaking establishment of Birch Brothers. On June 23, 1879 as George A. Birch, he married Fannie Balman at the District of Columbia. They were the parents of Albert George Birch (1883-1972).

Mr. George T. Birch died yesterday at his residence, 3034 M Street, after an illness of some days. The deceased was the senior member of the undertaking firm of Joseph Birch’s Sons and had been in the business for many years. He enjoyed an unusually large acquaintance. The deceased was a member of Potomac Lodge, No. 5, F.A.A.M. and was quite prominent in fraternal circles. He was also a member of the Congress Street Methodist Protestant Church. He held the esteem and confidence of all who knew him. A widow and one child survive him. His funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from the Congress Street Church, Rev. Dr. Hammond officiating.
