DAYTON, Jan 12 - Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Coffman, 99, widow of Jacob B. Coffman, a native of Hinton and a resident of this community since 1888 died at her home Tuesday evening at seven-forty following a lingering illness.

Mrs. Coffman had been in declining health for several years although her condition did not become serious until early this month with little promise being held for her recovery. Her passing brought sorrow to her many friends and acquaintances who knew her as a kind, friendly and humble person who always had a word of cheer for everyone in all walks of life.

A daughter of the late Christian and Sarah Bowman Showalter, she was born Nov 2, 1855 at Hinton where she spent the early years of her life. On October 14, 1875 she was united in marriage to Jacob B. Coffman. Following their marriage they lived in Hinton for a few years and in 1888 they built the home in which she lived until her death here. Her husband preceded her in death on Feb. 23, 1930.

Mrs. Coffman, who was a person of high ideas and strong charcter had a gentle kindly spirit. She was a devoted Christian, uniting with the Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren when a young girl and was very active as long as her health permitted. She was affectionately known as Aunt Sallie Jake to her many friends and relatives. She devoted her entire life to the good of the community which she loved and was always ready and willing to help those in need. She was always very fond of children and enjoyed having them around her all her life.

Mrs. Coffman is survived by two sons, Ernest S. Coffman, of Dayton and Samuel Frank Coffman, of Richmond. She also leaves two grandchildren, Mrs. Frances Michael, of Dayton, Ohio and E. Ralph Coffman, of Aberdeen, Md. Two great-grandchildren, Larry Lee Coffman and Carol Ann Coffman, both of Aberdeen, Md., also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at two-thirty from the Bank Mennonite Church with her pastor, the Rev. Robert E. Houf in charge of the services, assisted by the Rev. Simon D. Glick. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Nephews who will serve as pallbearer are: Jacob Showalter, Grover Showalter, Arb Showalter, L.D. Hartman, Homer Coffman, and Paul V. Heatwole.

The body now rests at the W.L. Rosenberger Funeral Home in Bridgewater, where it will remain until removed to the church for the services.

Relatives, friends and pallbearers are asked to meet at the church Friday afternoon at two-twenty.

The casket will not be opened at the church, although anyone wishing to view the remains may do so anytime at the Rosenberger Funeral Home until Friday afternoon at two o'clock.

The family requests that flowers be omitted.
