US ARMY - WORLD WAR II

Curtis L. Myers, 88, of Carlisle, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009 at home.

Born October 18, 1921 in Newville, he was a son of the late Samuel and and Irene Mae Barrick Myers.

He retired from the Nuclear Division of the former Ships Parts Control Center, with 42 years of service, which included his military service. He was a part-time salesman for the former Arnold Motors, Carlisle, for 29 years and was currently a salesman for the West Penn Auto Sales, Carlisle. He had also served as a loan officer for Defense Activities Federal Credit Union, Mechanicsburg for 13 years.

He served as a Recon Sergeant with the 208th Combat Engineering Battalion Headquarters Co., 83rd Infantry Division, during World War II. He fought during the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. He received five combat battle stars and the Bronze Star and Hurtgen Forest, Germany.

Mr. Myers was a life member of the National Association of the Battle of the Bulge, Washington, D.C.; Battle of the Bulge South Central Chapter, Lancaster; Battle of the Bulge Chapter, Philadelphia; and the 83rd Infantry Division Association.

He also held the following Masonic affiliations: St. John's Lodge #260 F&AM, Carlisle; Zembo Temple and Zembo Luncheon Club; Harrisburg Consistory; Cumberland County Shrine Club; Tall Cedars of Lebanon Forest #43.

Curtis was also a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose #761, Order of the Eagles #1299, White Circle Club; AARP National and Local #3378, life member of NARFE National and Local #373, Mechanicsburg Men's Club. He was a life member of Newville VFW Post 6070, American Legion Post #421, Newville, life member of Big Spring Fish and Game Association, World War II Veterans of Newville, life member of Disabled American Veterans, Shippensburg VFW Post #6168, American Legion James McCartney Post #232, Dry Run, Pa, life member of the National Rifle Association.

He was a past Director and Vice President of the American Ordnance Association, Mechanicsburg, member of the National Defense Association, life member of the Minnequa Social Club, Shippensburg, life member of the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery Memorial Council, life member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Surviving are two sons: William Myers of Puyallup, WA and Ronald Myers of Philadelphia; a daughter: Tammy McGee of Texas; three sisters: Betty Beamer of Carlisle; Jane Kohler and Janice Myers, both of Newville and five grandchildren.

Masonic funeral services will be held at the Ronan Funeral Home, 255 York Road, Carlisle on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. Burial, with military honors, will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. There will be no viewing or visitation.
