LEOTA GASH
---Leota Gash, age 86 of La Plata, Missouri passed away Monday night (June 15, 2009) at Manor Care Center in Kirksville, Missouri.
---Leota was born on February 2, 1923 in rural Kirksville, Missouri a daughter of Abbie C. and Anna Belle (Rogers) Wood. On May 8, 1942 in Kahoka, Missouri she was united in marriage to Herbert L. Gash, who preceded her in death on July 31, 1980.
---She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Gail Wood and two sisters, Louise Baily and Eathel Slaughter.
---She is survived by three children, Donna M. Gray and husband, Jerry of New Boston, Missouri, Richard E. Gash of Austin, Texas and Donald Lee Gash and wife, Geri of Raytown, Missouri; four grandchildren, Brian Gray and wife, Melinda of Atlanta, Missouri, Todd Gray and wife, Leslie of Medford, Wisconsin, Shandra Montalvo and husband, Jose of Mansfield, Texas and Cara Soliday of Frisco, Texas; three step-grandchildren, Gerald "Gary" Gash, Murl Gash, Steve Gash; six great-grandchildren, Zacary Gray, Chase Gray, Alaina Gray, Ethan Montalvo, Ryan Montalvo and Sydney Soliday; six step-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Roma Rodriquez of La Plata, Missouri and Dora Frances Hardy of Lewiston, Idaho, several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
---Leota resided most of her life in the Gifford community where she attended the Gifford High School. She and her husband resided on the family farm east of Gifford for more than 40 years. She worked as a nurses aide at the La Plata Nursing Home for several years, was a member of the Ladies of the Moose in Kirksville and a member of the Gifford Christian Church. Leota enjoyed quilting, embroidering and gardening, especially her flowers. Leota loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
---Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday (June 19, 2009) at Elliott Funeral Home in Atlanta, Missouri, with Barry Richardson officiating. Music will be provided by Shirley Matticks, organist. Musical selections will be "In The Garden", "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art".
---Burial will be held following the service in the La Plata Cemetery, La Plata, Missouri. Pallbearers will be Todd Gray, Brian Gray, Glenn Wood, Gene Wood, Jerry Wood and Mike Van Hara. Honorary bearers will be Steve Van Hara, George Hansen and Nicholas Van Hara.
---Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday (June 18, 2009) at Elliott Funeral Home, 103 East Main, Atlanta, Missouri 63530.
---Memorial in memory of Leota Gash may be made to Gifford Christian Church.
