Mr. W. H. Newman died at his home near Rock Spring last Saturday night. Mr. Newman has been in feeble health for several years, but was only confined to his room about five weeks. During this time he suffered much pain, but bore it patiently to the end. He was about seventy-four years of age, had married 50 years. He joined the missionary Baptist church at Rock Springs in 1858 and was a faithful member there until his death. Not many services were held there without is presence. Mr. Newman was an honorable citizen, a devoted husband and father, he was of a bright, cheerful disposition and was always hospitable at his home to friends. He leaves a devoted companion, four sons and one daughter to mourn, besides a number of grandchildren, relatives and friends. He will be sadly missed everywhere. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was buried by the Masonic order, after service conducted by Revs. Gregory and Bledsoe. The bereaved ones have our sincere sympathy.
