"The LaFayette Sun" - August 19, 1896:

It is with much sadness that I chronicle the death of Mr. O. B. Newman, of Rock Spring, which sad event occurred on last Friday night. He had been confined to his bed for several weeks with a severe spell of typhoid fever, and though everything was done by his physician, family and find friends to rid him of the fatal malady, yet God, in His infinite wisdom, saw fit to take his spirit to its heavenly home. He leaves a sorrowing wife and one child, an aged father and mother, four brothers and a sister to mourn his departure, to whom I extend heartfelt sympathy. The remains of deceased were interred in Rock Spring cemetery on Saturday, the day following his death.

AND...

In Memoriam.

Again death with its ruthless hand has entered our midst and borne from a happy home one of its loved inmates, Mr. O. B. Newman, after a lingering illness, was called away and the happy home of which he was a devoted, loving husband and father, is shrouded in deepest gloom. We are not surprised when the aged are taken home to their long rest, but when the young are called away we are prone to wonder at the ways of providence.
Mr. Newman was only 30 years of age, just in the bloom of vigorous manhood, beloved by a large circle of friends, the light and joy of his little family circle. It seems hard to realize that he is gone and that nevermore will his loved ones be greeted by his cheery voice and pleasant smile. but we must not murmur, he was called by one who never makes mistakes, for "He is too wise to err and too good to be unkind".
His father, mother, brothers and sister are sadly bereaved. This is the first broken link in the family. His young wife, on whom he lavished his love and devotion of his warm, generous heart is prostrated with grief. His little son, who was his pride and joy, wonders why "Papa does not come at his loving call."
We deeply sympathize with all these bereaved ones, and may the God of all grace comfort their bleeding hearts and lead them to that blessed home where we trust their loved one is waiting to receive them.

- J. E. H. Rock Spring, Aug. 17, 1896.
