Death of Mrs. Ruth Bartlett
~On rapid wings the angel of death hastens mortals to the tomb-the aged and the young-in this instance the aged, but one of earth's purest and best creatures - Mrs. Ruth Bartlett - which sad event took place at the home of her son, Mr. Charles Bartlett, of this county on Thursday evening, December 21st. Mrs. Bartlett was 73 years of age and had been in declining health for several months, but being of a strong constitution her death was a great surprise to those around hr. Mrs. Bartlett was the widow of the late W. A. (Warren A.) Bartlett of this county, who pure life and Christian character won for her the love of all who knew her.
~In early life she joined the Primitive Baptist Church, who doctrine she loved, and in whose faith she wavered not, but always generous to those who seemed in differ with her upon those lines. Ms. Bartlett was a true wife, a devoted mother, full of charity and good deeds to those in need of assistance. That she lived well and died in peace and in the love of God, is sufficient proof that she rests in glory.
Mrs. Bartlett leaves nine children and one step-daughter, namely: Messrs. T.B. and G.W. Bartlett of Columbus; H.D. Bartlett of Fort Valley; W.A. Bartlett of Marshalville; C.M. Bartlett of this county, C.O. Bartlett of Sumner; Mrs. J.Q. Metton and Mrs. J.G. Chambliss, of Marion county, Miss Mollie Bartlett of Marshallville, and Mrs. H.A. Childs of Butler, besides a host of friends and relatives who mourn their loss.
~The remains of Mrs. Bartlett were laid to rest in the cemetery at Bethel Church on Saturday, December 23rd, the funeral service was conducted by Re. John Locke, at which were a large attendance of sorrowing relatives and friends.
