Evelyn was a much loved and respected Charter Member of Broad River Genealogical Society. Her local presence has been much missed in recent years. Her long distance association & contributions will be be a loss we cannot fill.

POWDER SPRINGS, Ga. - Evelyn McCracken Dorsey, 75, former resident of Boiling Springs, N.C., died Wednesday night from heart failure.

An advocate of literacy, she held a bachelor, masters and education specialist degrees from Appalachian State Univer-sity. Affectionately remembered as a kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Dorsey taught three generations of students in Rutherford and Cleveland County.

Mrs. Dorsey was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution Flint Hill Chapter, Boiling Springs Baptist Church sanctuary and hand bell choirs and various community and professional organizations.

Born Mary Evelyn McCracken of Boone, she was married to James Goode Blanton from 1952-1977 then to Robert Vernon Dorsey from 1986-2004.

Evelyn is survived by daughters; Lynne Blanton Scarboro and Libby Blanton Woolard; son-in-law Jerry Woolard; grandchil-dren Mercedes and Grayson Woolard; and brothers Don and Jerry McCracken.

Visitation: The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Funeral: Monday, Oct. 26, 7 p.m., Boiling Springs Baptist Church
