BOONE — Frank Wayne McCracken, 63, died Tuesday afternoon in a local hospital after a brief illness.
Mr. McCracken was a native of Haywood County and had lived in Watauga County for 36 years.
He was employed by the State Highway Department as maintenance supervisor for 43 years, being transferred to Watauga County from Sylva in 1931.
Mr. McCracken was active in local civic and religious organizations and a member of First Baptist Church where he was a deacon and had taught the Sunday School class for the 14 year old boys for many years. He was educated in Haywood schools and took training in Sweeney Automotive School in Kansas City, Kan.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Geneva Byrd McCracken; two sons, Donald W. of Raleigh and Jerry F. McCracken of Muskegon, Mich.; a daughter, Mrs. James G. Blanton of Rutherfordton; a sister, Mrs. Sam Ferguson of Clyde Rt. 3; three brothers, Glenn S. of Clyde Rt. 3, Hugh D. of Wethersfield, Conn. and Sam W. McCracken of West Asheville; and four grandchildren.
