CRASH KILLS 2 MEN IN PLATTE COUNTY
Two men were killed early yesterday when the motor car in which they were riding struck a concrete pillar of an overpass at M-45 and M-92 at Beverly in Platte County. The dead; Richard K. Pittman, 36, who lived at the White City hotel in Riverside. Joseph J. Leavey, jr., 18, Of 143 North Sixty-fourth Street, Muncie. The highway patrol said the northbound car, driven by Pittman, left the highway and slid about 245 feet sideways along the edge before striking the abutment. Leavey was the only passenger. The accident occurred about 2 o'clock. Pittman was an employee of the Corn Products Refining company in North Kansas City. He was born at Minneola, Kas. He is susvived by his wife, Mrs. Bernadine Pittman, and a daughter, Becky Sue Pittman, both of Waldron, Mo.; his mother, Mrs. Rella Pittman, Minneola; five sisters, Mrs. Nellie Ernzen, Burfordville, Mo.; Mrs. Lucille Hatcher and Mrs. Katherine Hicks, both of Lamar, Colo.; Mrs. Bonnie Woeppel, 7822 Armstrong Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas, and Mrs. Edith Ferguson, Cimarron, Kas.; two brothers, George Pittman, Wiley, Colo., and Ira E. Pittman, 1730 Greeley Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas; two half brothers, Clyde Pittman, Liberal, Kas., and Cleo Pittman, Minneola, and a half sister, Mrs. Pauline Books, South Bend, Ind. Services will be at 2 o'clock Tuesday at the Minneola Christian church. Burial will be in Minnesota cemetery. Leavey was an attendant at a service station at Thirty- seventh street and State Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas. He was born in Kansas City, Kansas, and attended Muncie elementary school and Turner high school. He was a member of the St. Anthony's Catholic church. Surviving are the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph J. Leavey, sr.; two sisters, Elizabeth , Leavey, and Patricia Leavey, and two brothers, Frank Leavey and Steve Leavey, all of the home, 143 North Sixty- fourth, Kansas City, Kansas, and the maternal grandfather, Charles Cochran, Sedalia, Mo.
