Dec. 16, 1931 - April 23, 2003

GREENTOWN -- Lora E. Bennett, 71, Greentown, died 1 a.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at his residence. Born Dec. 16, 1931, in Howard County, he was the son of Everett A. and Nellie (McQuiston) Bennett. He married Patsy J. Bowland on March 9, 1951, in Greentown.
He graduated from Greentown High School in 1950 and went on to serve in the U.S. Air Fore from 1951 to 1955. He worked for the FAA as an air traffic control specialist for 30 years, retiring in 1990, in the Chicago area. He was past commander of American Legion John Olson Post 18, Lockport, Ill, where he was a lifetime member. He was also a member of Jerome Christian Church in Greentown. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and outdoor sports.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy J. Bennett; one daughter, Deborah Fitzgerald and her husband, Dale, Lockport, Ill; two sons and their spouses, Rick and Betty Bennett, Spring Grove, Ill, and Scott and Kim Bennett, Chanahan, Ill; seven grandchildren, Christopher Fitzgerald, Nicholas Fitzgerald, Timothy Fitzgerald, Joseph Bennett, Sylvia Bennett, Julia Bennett, Cullen Bennett; and two sisters, Lorena Hendricks, Greentown and Loretta Easley, McComb, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Jerome Christian Church, 9535 E 100 S., Greentown, with Pastor Kendall Faull officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Halsler-Pickett Funeral Home, 112 E Main St., Greentown. Military rites will be given at the cemetery.
