Gene was son of Ralph and Dora Baxley, brother to Keith and Wayne, and husband to Bonnie Jean Word Baxley. He was a Southern Baptist minister and pastor for many years in various parts of Florida. He attended Stetson University, and was a graduate of both the Baptist Bible Institute of Florida, and of the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA.
