Texas Coaster, September 21, 1944:

John Christian Meyer died at his home near Rosenberg Thursday night of last week at the age of 81 years, four months, and 10 days.

Mr. Meyer was born May 4, 1863, at Opendorf, Germany. He came to this country at the age of 17, locating near Gay Hill. He lived there until 1901, when he moved to Kenney, Texas, and from there to Cameron. In 1910 he moved to Fort Bend county, locating on a farm south of Rosenberg, where he lived until the time of his death, a period of 34 years. He was a progressive farmer and a highly esteemed citizen of the county.

The deceased was married to Lena Baker on November 28, 1889, at Gay Hill. To this union were born ten children, four daughters and six sons. His wife and two daughters preceded him in death. Mr. Meyer was a charter member of St. Paul's Lutheran church in Rosenberg.

During the past two years he had been seriously ill a number of times. He again became very ill Tuesday of last week and died Thursday night.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Otto Leissner of Needville and Mrs. W.L. North of Buras, La., six sons, Walter, Charlie, Homer and Fred of Rosenberg, Henry Meyer of Richmond, and John Meyer of Ganado, and eleven grandchildren, one of whom is serving overseas.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the home and at 2:30 from St. Paul's Lutheran church, with Rev. Hugo Probst officiating. Interment was in the Rosenberg cemetery.
