John Alfred Lowry, age 65, died Sunday, October 23 1988 at his home near Houston. Military graveside services will be Wednesday, October 26 at Prospect Cemetery with Dr Bryan Scarbrough officiating.
The son of the late Columbus Doss Lowry and Mrs. Fannie Louise Mottley Lowry, he was born in Tunica County and lived most of his life in Chickasaw County. He was a retired farmer and cattleman and was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church. He was a member of the 78th Infantry Division and was awarded a Bronze Star Metal during "Battle of the Bulge" January 31 1945. He was wounded in action March 18 1945 near Honnef, Germany. He was also awarded the Purple Heart. He was a graduate of Mississippi State University and attended his 45th class reunion in April.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Fannie Lowry of West Point and four sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Maddox and Mrs. Joan Lowry Houston, both of Batesville, Mrs. Rosemary Lowry Rhine of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Mrs. Louise Lowry Earnest of Woodland.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Prospect Methodist Church.
Houston Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
