MRS. ADA B. GRIMES
With heartfelt sorrow we chronicle the death of Mrs. Ada B. Grimes, of Derby, which occurred early Monday morning, December 8th, 1913, at the age of forty-nine years, ten months and twenty-nine days, after a lingering illness of over four years.
Largely attended funeral services, conducted by Rev. White, were held at the Derby Presbyterian church on Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, after which the remains were tenderly laid to rest in the Derby cemetery.
Ada Blizzard, eldest child of Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Blizzard, was born in Monroe county, Iowa, on January 9th, 1864. With her parents she came to Lucas county, Iowa, in 1867, where she has since resided.
On December 22nd, 1887, she was united in marriage to Harry L. Grimes, who died July 23rd, 1896. To this union three children were born, two sons, Thomas Morton and Frederic, dying in infancy. One daughter, Ruth, is living.
Mrs. Grimes is also survived by her father and mother, two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Dorothy Irwin, of Florence, Ariz., Mrs. Justin Westfall and Thomas M. Blizzard, of Derby, and uncle and aunt, Dr. and Mrs. T. B. Mitchell, of Derby, and many other relatives to whom the deepest sympathy of a host of friends will be extended.
She was a graduate of the musical department of the Valparaiso Normal school, being a member of the class of 1882, and for three years following was musical director of the Stanberry, Mo. Normal school. She chose the profession of music as her life's work, a work in which she was unusually proficient and to which she was much devoted.
She possessed a sweet, amiable disposition, and had a kind, pleasant word for all. She was energetic and ambitious and her indomitable will and pluck pushed to successful completion every undertaking. She was ever thoughtful of others and ready to minister to those in trouble or need.
She was one of the charter members of the Derby Presbyterian church, having been a member for about thirty years. She lived a faithful and consistent Christian life, and her good influence will live for many years. She leaves a vacant place in the church and the community that will be difficult to fill.
