July 23, 1914, Josie married William (Bud) Howard. After their marriage they moved to Colorado where they lived on a farmstead for 10 years. In 1924, they moved to Superior, Nebraska. After her husband's death on May 30, 1964, Josie moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Superior due to failing health. She later moved to Good Samaritan Center in Nelson.
She was a member of Wesleyan Church in Superior.
Preceding her in death besides her husband were her parents, one daughter, one infant son, three brothers, one sister and one granddaughter.
Survivors include two sons, Alvin D. of Hoodsport, Washington, and Ivan of Phoenix, Arizona.; one daughter, Helen Miller of Superior, Nebraska; one sister, Edna Pawley of Nelson, Nebraska; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 6, 1995, at 2 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home chapel in Superior, Nebraska, with Rev. Leland Smith officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Superior.
