An Obituary from "Gatesville Messenger & Star Forum," Monday, September 17, 1984:

Mrs. Johnnie Newton Martin of Gatesville died Thursday in the local hospital. She was 82.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Scott's Funeral Chapel and were conducted by Rev. Curtis Beaird. Burial was in Restland Cemetery.
Mrs. Martin, daughter of the late R. H. and Millie Alexander, was born at Oglesby Jan. 23, 1902.
She was married to Bonna Martin on Oct. 14, 1925, and they farmed in the Pecan Grove community. Mr. Martin died in 1972.
Mrs. Martin has resided in Gatesville the last several years.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include two brothers, Robert Alexander of Oglesby and Jim Alexander of McGregor; three sisters, Mrs. Manetta Clark of Plainview, Mrs. Mary B. Gracy of Roscoe and Mrs. Allie Carlson of Brady; and several nieces and one nephew.
Pallbearers for Mrs. Martin's funeral were Carl Drake, Clois Stone, Loyd Ivy, Vance Stephens and Ray Ward.
