FORT MYERS, Fla. — William L. Jenkins, 91, of Fort Myers, passed away May 6, 2009, after a lengthy illness.

He was born July 28, 1917, in Ingalls, the son of William O. and Ora (Flowers) Jenkins. He grew up on a farm in Lapel and graduated from Lapel High School in 1936. He met his dear wife, Betty Slate, in 1941 and was married to her for 67 wonderful years.

William retired from Guide Lamp after 44.5 years of service. He was a proud member of Fellowship Masonic Lodge 681 for more than 50 years as well as the Anderson Elks Lodge. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jenkins; sons, William Jenkins Jr. of Pendleton and John (wife, Joey) Jenkins of Noblesville; three cherished grandchildren, Kari (husband, John) Kirk, Kory (wife, Sarah) Jenkins, and William Kregg Jenkins (fiancée, Sarah); seven treasured great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mildred Gudgel of Lapel.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Harold Jenkins and Robert Jenkins; and sisters, Irene Davis, Helen Cecil, Ethel Rushton and Phyllis Shetterly.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home with the Rev. Donna Ward officiating.

Entombment will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with a Masonic memorial service at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
