Dr. Nicholas Hatfield dies; services Wednesday.
Services for Dr. Nicholas W. Hatfield, 71. a lifelong Indianapolis resident, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Flanner and Buchanan Broad Ripple Mortuary, where friends may call from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday. He died Saturday in Community Hospital. He was a reviewing physician in the disability department of the Social Security Administration 10 years, retiring in 1975. Before that, he was a general practitioner at Brightwood. Dr. Hatfield was a member of Marion County Medical Society, Indiana State and American Medical Association. and has served on the Methodist and Community hosptial's medical staffs. An Army Medical Corps veteran of World War II, hew as awarded a Purple Heart and Silver Star. He was a member of All Souls Unitarian Church, Ancient Landmarks Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Murat Shrine. A graduate of Jefferson Medical College at Philadelphia and Butler University, he had interned at City Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Helen S. Hatfield, two sons, Nicholas J. and Stephen L. Hatfield; a daughter, Carolyn H. Stetson, and two stepsons, James A. and Dr. Richard L. Caplin. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association ro the donor's favorite charity.
