Obituary:
Sara Stratton, 72, died at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, October 19, 2008, after a valiant 12-year battle with ovarian cancer. She died peacefully at her home at Chambersburg. She was born in Burnt Cabins, December 17, 1935. She was the daughter of Ira and Lola Waters. She had a brother, Jim (deceased), a sister, Dorothy (deceased) and is survived by a sister, Margaret Newman, Hustontown. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John (Jack) Peffer, Shippensburg, in 1975. They had two daughters: Jill (wife of John) Hudock, Shippensburg, and Sue (fiance of Joel Kissinger), Etters, Pa. She was married to Thomas Stratton in 1978, who survives her at the home address. She was the proud grandmother of Benjamin Burgess of Etters and Emily Hudock of Shippensburg. She was a graduate of Shippensburg University with a master's degree in education. She taught school in Chambesburg and in Mooresville, N.C., while living there in the early 1980s. She loved to golf and play bridge with her many friends over the years. Memorial services will be held at the Middle Spring Presbyterian Church of Shippensburg on Thursday, October 23, at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Kim Wadlington will officiate. Graveside services will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery in Shippensburg. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a contribution be made to the Shippensburg Public Library, 73 W. King St., Shippensburg, PA 17257 in honor of Sara's great love of teaching reading during her working career. Words that would sum up her life are: loving wife, friend, companion, mother and grandmother. Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home Ltd., Chambersburg, is in charge of arrangements.
