Maternal Grandfather

Robert "Bob" Campbell was my grandfather and he was the BEST grandfather ever. Nothing mattered more to my grandpa than his family, and he would do anything for them. He was born in Kingston Michigan in 1932 and was the youngest of 6 living children. He had sisters Nita, Margaret "Maggie", Almeda, and Dorothy and one brother Stan. He lost his mother when he was 16 and he mourned his mother until the day he died. He entered the U.S. Army March 6, 1951, then later re-enlisted in the Air Force for a total of 11 years in the U.S. Military. He was stationed in several different places during his military career such as San Francisco, Korea (he served in the Korean war), and finally Germany where he met his wife, my grandmother Erika. They had a daughter, my mother, Lilly then my aunt Karen while still in Germany and after moving to the states they had my aunt Sylvia. My grandpa and grandma lived in several places in California, like Death Valley and Sunol (where my grandpa owned a gas station) then ended in Livermore. He was an employee of Alameda County and when we had the large earthquake in 1989, he was there to clean up all the structures that fell and he received a letter from the President for his efforts in the cleanup. He retired from the county of Alameda after 20 years. After retirement my grandparents relocated to Salem Oregon. It was after moving to Oregon that he was diagnosed with Cancer and he lost that battle after about a year. I have nothing but Great memories of my grandfather and I miss him very much. My mother is now with him though and I know they are both watching over all of us. He is survived by 8 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
