Chaplain Ray Brock of Gatesville died Saturday afternoon in the local hospital of lung cancer. He was 64 and had been in failing health for several months. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Gatesville Funeral Home chapel and were conducted by Ministers Max T. Neel and John Barnhill. Following the eulogy were a graveside ceremony and burial in Restland Cemetery.

Mr. Brock was chaplain at the Mountain View School for Boys for ten years and in his final year there, 1973, he was elected to the position of coordinating chaplain for the Texas Youth Council. A native of Stephenville, he began preaching in 1939 and during his years in the ministry he served Churches of Christ throughout Texas. He was an elder in the East Main Church of Christ, in Gatesville. Chaplain Brock's endeavors to reach others through Christ's ministry went beyond his evangelistic work and chaplaincy with extensive guidance counselling. His record, "Who Am I? Why Am I Here? Where Am I Going?", was released in 1970 and enjoyed a wide distribution in hospitals and homes over the nation. It was the product of more than five years of study and work in the field of mental inspiritual therapy.

Chaplain Brock is survived by his wife, Mrs. Jessie Brock of Gatesville; a son, Tom Brock of Gatesville; two daughters, Mrs. Maggie Curtis of Weatherford and Mrs. Jessie Wiliams of Ennis; five sisters, Mrs. Delia Flippin of Kentucky, Mrs. Lida Dees of Houston, Mrs. Addio Hughes of Baird, Mrs. Leu Allen of Houston and Mrs. Laraine Allen of Houston; two brothers, Louis Brock and Lloyd Brock, both of Houston; and nine grandchildren.
