Funeral services for Mrs. Mabel McDonald, wife of a retired Athens businessman, will be conducted Wednesday at 3 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Bobby Cook of the First Christian Church will officiate at the rites. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Mrs. McDonald, wife of John M. McDonald, died Tuesday at the Athens-Limestone Hospital after suffering a heart attack. The daughter of the late Robert L. and Emma Fenner Hatchett, Mrs. McDonald was a native of Limestone County, having spent her early life in the Wooley Springs community. She attended schools in Athens, worked in Birmingham, and then became a bookkeeper in her husband's bakery after marriage. She was an active member of the First Christian Church, having taught a Sunday School class there until two years ago. She was a former member of the Business and Professional Women's Club.
Mrs. McDonald is survived by her husband; two sons, Cliff McDonald of Athens, and Sidney McDonald of Nashville; two brothers, Roy and Robert Hatchett, Elkmont; three sisters, Mrs. C. M. Hightower, Tanner, AL, Mrs. Jennie Johnston, Monroeville, and Mrs. M.N. Eley, Union Springs.
