Mrs. T. A. Morgan

Eva Melissa, daughter of John and Julia Axmear, was born in Virginia, October 9, 1863, and departed this life at her home in Webster April 5, 1929, aged 85 years, 5 months and 26 days.

When one year of age she came with her parents, four brothers and one sister to Iowa, where with the other early pioneers they faced life on the open prairies. They faced many hardships in those early days, but their faith never faltered.

An education at that time was not as easily obtained in those days as it is today, but after finishing the elementary school she attended normal at Sigourney after which she was a successful teacher for several years. It was while teaching at Lincoln school near Webster that she met Thos. A. Morgan whom she afterwards married on November 30, 1887. For several years they made their home on a farm near Webster where they have since made their home.

To this union were born six children: Clarence, Ada, Blanche, Grace, Helen and Thomas who died July 30, 1904. She was a kind and loving wife and mother, whose first thots were always for home and family, but yet she never forgot others and found much time to devote toward helping them. When her children were small many duties fell upon her and she spent almost endless hours caring for the needs of her family, but it only made her love grow deeper and she never found any burdens too heavy. In later years she as lovingly cared for her husband's father and her mother who spent their last years in her home.

After her family were grown and no longer needed her almost constant care they spent their winters in California, but three years ago when her health began to fail she wanted to be here in her own home and as Edgar Guest said: "By a heap 'o livin in it, it had been made a home and not just a house in which to dwell".
She was a member of the M. E. church and always loved to attend Sunday School and church, but the past two years her health has not permitted her presence there except occasionally but her heart was there and to the end she kept her faith in Jesus.
Even tho she suffered almost constantly the past few months, she never complained; was always kind and thoughtful to her husband who cared for her and until the last hour, kept to the faith she would soon be better.

Three weeks ago Clarence, the only child who was not close at home, came back from Idaho for a few days visit which meant so much to her.

She leaves to mourn her departure her devoted husband, one son, four daughters, eight grandchildren and two brothers. One son, three brothers and two sisters having preceded her to the Great Beyond.

Funeral service were held t the M.E. Church Sunday at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. J.A. Worrell of What Cheer, assisted by Rev. Meler. After which she was laid to rest in Sorden cemetery beside her son.
