Sterling Delk, the son of Joe and Mary Hipock Delk, was born on March 11, 1904, in Jamestown, Tennessee. He has lived most of his life in Jasper County, having lived in the Kellogg and Sully, Iowa areas.
On August 3, 1935, Sterling was united in marriage to Morning E. Gibson in New Sharon, Iowa. He retired from the Maytag Company, having worked at Plant 2 in the sheet metal department. Sterling moved into Newton, Iowa in 1963. He was looking forward to the spring flowers blooming. Sterling was a devoted and loving husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, great-great-grandpa, brother and friend.
Sterling died on Wednesday, February 26, 2003, at his home in Newton. He was 98. Sterling was preceded in death by parents, wife, Morning in 1974, 3 sons, 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
Those left to honor Sterling’s memory are his 3 sons, Homer Simpson of Colfax, Iowa, Robert and LeRoy Delk, both of Newton; 3 daughters and son-in-law, Lela Young of Kellogg, Rose Anderson of Des Moines, Iowa and Nancy and Vig Fuller of Baxter, Iowa; his 21 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and his many great-great-grandchildren and sister, Monnie Dowell of Phoenix, Arizona.
