Born in Coagh, Co Tyrone. William eloped with Isabella McClelland on 3/10/1784. They were married first by a Catholic priest and then in the Church of Ireland at the insistence of the Rev. John McClelland, Isabella's father. William came to America as a linen merchant living originally in New York then Philadelphia. He was in business with his cousin John Lyle. When that business failed Wm & Isabella came to Charles Town, Va. where he became a printer. Wm & Isabella had ten children. Most of whom lived in the Charles Town area. Wm died in 1806 as reported in the Martinsburg Gazette. His youngest child Jane was born 3 weeks later. While many of his family are buried in the Zion Episcopal Churchyard, Charles Town, the burial place of Wm is not known.
