Chico Daily Record, Saturday August 8, 1908, pg 8 col 1: Funeral of Mrs. Julia Day Gray. Mrs. Julia Day Gray, whose funeral was held Thursday morning at her home, Third and Oak streets, Rev. G.L. Lobdell of the Christian Church officiating, had been a resident of Chico for fourteen years and of Butte county for thirty-six years. She was born in the State of Maine in 1831, married Sheldon Gray in 1849, and with her husband came West to make a home.

In the course of the service, Rev. Lobdell said: "Death visited their peaceful and happy home six years ago and took away her husband, leaving her a widow. She was converted to the Christian religion and joined the Baptist church in the State of Minnesota at the age 35. Her life was a well rounded, finished, Christian life. Having done the work her Heavenly Father gave her to do, her physical strength gradually left her and, leaning upon the 'everlasting arms,' she fell asleep in Jesus to wake in His likeness."
