My great-grandma was born as one of eight children in Elster named Emma Hedwig Lohmann. She had seven siblings: Wilhelm, Emma, Richard, Ernst, Hilda (married: Prinz), Gerda & Klara (married/widowed: Reinecke, Wort, Rose).
In December 1929 she married the widower and fourfold father Gustav Kilz in Seyda.
The first child of Hedwig and Gustav, my grandfather Helmut was born in August 1930.
Followed by daughter Dora (*1934 - †2013) and daughter Brigitte (*1942).
She worked in the LPG (Agricultural Production Cooperative). For health reasons, she could not work at the end of 1950 and went into early retirement.
Hedwig was a familial and sociable person and visited as far as possible her children and siblings.
Hedwig experienced many misfortunes: At the beginning of the 1940s, her step-son Herbert fell in the World War II in Volgograd. Step-son Richard was deadly killed at work, grandson Harald dies in February 1956. A year later her husband committed suicide. Son Helmut died in 1965 at the age of only 35 years.
My great-grandmother suffered from pneumonia and died at the age of 80 in Oranienbaum.
