Lorna McCray Scarbrough, 85, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, in Taylor. She was born in St. Johns April 17, 1923, to Dexter Lee and Euphemia (Berry) McCray.

She married John W. "Jake" Feb. 13, 1945, in Prescott.

Lorna was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister aunt and a friend to everyone. She was a rancher's wife, working almost all of her life having various jobs. Those who knew her best were in the St. Johns Post Office with a broom in one hand and a cleaning cloth in the other with a "Minnie Pearl" smile and of course "howdy" comes along with the smile.

Lorna was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and held different positions in the church. She served an LDS full-term mission in the Portland, Ore. area. Some of her favorite things in life were her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids, gardening, sewing and the McCray family reunions. Lorna was truly a wonderful sister as well as a very dear friend. "We will miss her very much and we truly do love all the precious memories of being her twin sisters. But we know she has waited 33 years to be with "Jake."

"She had the heart that the "Tin Man" wanted, Courage that the "Lion" was looking for and was like "Dorothy" who had all of her friends and in turn helped her find the way home and we can even imagine, the clicking of the "pretty red shoes. We love you Lorna." She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John W. "Jake" Scarbrough; brothers, Lee (Jean) McCray, Quentin (Hazel) McCray, R. Kelly McCray, Deaton (Nancy) McCray, W.G. (Babe) McCray and one sister Sibyl (Delbert) Plumb.

She is survived by two sons, Westley Scott (Helen) Scarbrough of St. Johns, Richard Lee "Snuff" (Kimarie) Scarbrough of Taylor and Deaton's son, Pat (Cherrie) McCray of Aurora, Colo. (whom Lorna raised after Deaton died); 13 grandchildren, Scott, Ryon, T.J., Mandi and Randi, Bethany, Jake, Kaleb, Marissa and Tyanne, Mike, Krystal and Brad; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Bill (Bea, deceased) McCray of St. Johns, Terry (Sally) McCray of Taylor, Douglas (Ginger) McCray of Show Low and Phillip (Gloria) McCray of Lakeside; sisters, Colleen McCray of Snowflake, Correnne (Elmer) Magee of Taylor, Anna (Bill) Prentice, Kay (Jimmy) Leverton of St. Johns, Kathy (Neal, deceased) Reidhead of Nutrioso and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 13, at the St. Johns Stake Center in St. Johns. A visitation was held at 9 a.m. with services at 10 a.m. Interment was at the St. Johns Cemetery.

Silver Creek Mortuary of Taylor handled arrangements.
