Old Time Resident of West End Succumbs to Long Illness
Was for Many Years the Treasurer of the Metropolitan Railroad Company and an Insurance Director
William James Wilson, one of the oldest inhabitants of the West End section of Washington died at his home, 2004 G Street Northwest yesterday evening at 5:30 o'clock, aged 76 years.
Mr. Wilson and his father were both born in the District. Mr. Wilson started life as a Clerk in the Paymaster General's Office when General Brice held that office. For 40 years he was a Director in the Fireman's Insurance Company of Washington and Georgetown and at the time of his death was the Vice President of that company. For fourteen years he was the Treasurer of the Metropolitan Railroad Company holding that position until the time that company was purchased by the Washington Railway and Electric Company.
Mr. Wilson had been failing for the last few months. He leaves seven children and one brother, General C.I. Wilson, United States Army (retired), who recently sailed for Europe. His children are Mrs. James M. Durant of Chevy Chase, Maryland; Miss Julia Wilson, Miss Sadie Wilson, Mrs. Charles M. Martin of Parkersburg, West Virginia; Miss Helen Wilson, Charles Frederick Wilson and Claiborne A. Wilson.
Arrangements for the funeral have not yet been completed. The services will probably take place at the home tomorrow. The Rev. Freeland Peter, Assistant Rector of the Church of the Epiphany will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
