NEW WINDSOR - Helen E. Foster, 89, New Windsor, died Friday (Dec. 18, 2009) at Trinity Medical Center in Rock Island.

Service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Peterson Wallin Knox Funeral Home in Alpha. Burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, where memorials may be left to Mercer County Nursing Home or Tri-County Ambulance. She was born July 2, 1920, in Knox County, a daughter of Roscoe and Edna Way Simkins. She graduated from Abingdon High School and married Homer "Dean" Foster Oct. 25, 1941, in Palmyra, Mo. He died after 67 years of marriage to Helen on May 19, 2009.

Helen was employed at Blue Bell Factory in Abingdon for 11 years and later was employed as a secretary for Winola Junior High School in New Windsor, retiring in 1982.

She was a former member of the Abingdon American Legion Auxiliary and was a Girl Scout leader in New Windsor for many years. She enjoyed playing cards and was an avid Cubs fan.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Bob Bateman of Sherrard; two granddaughters, Emily (Eddie) Bradshaw of Alpha and Beth (Phil) Brinkmeyer of Rowlett, Texas; two great-granddaughters, Delainey and Ella Bradshaw of Alpha; two special "girls," Shirley Brown of Jacob and Melissa Hartman of Matherville; and nieces and nephews.

Her parents; husband; two sisters, Margaret Cramer and Betty Boyer; and two brothers, Kenneth and Jack Simkins, preceded her in death.
