Mrs. A. B. McKown
After a lingering illness of six weeks, Mrs. A. B. McKown passed away at her home in Farmington, Minnesota, on Tuesday, March 11, at 11:45 a. m. Mrs. McKown had nor been feeling well in health for a number of years and in April, 1929, she was operated on for cancer and never seemed to regain her strength fully. About the latter part of January, 1930, she became seriously ill and since that time had been growing weaker each day until the angel of death, as the messenger of God, came and took her away fro all suffering and sickness to the Heavenly Land.
Susan Harriett Moffit was the second daughter of Aaron and Ruth Moffit of Princeville, Illinois and was born at Princeville, Illinois, May 21, 1870, where she spent the early part of her life. On February 7, 1894, she was united in marriage to A. B. McKown of Princeville, Illinois. To this union two children were born, Louise of Woodland, California and Stella McKown Whittier, who is now a missionary in West Africa. With her family, she came to Minnesota in August, 1911, and with the exception of three years spent near Princeton, Minnesota, she lived in Farmington and vicinity ever since.
Early id her life she untied with the Princeville Presbyterian church where she continued a member until coming to Minnesota in 1911. She soon afterwards has her membership transferred to Farmington Presbyterian church, where she continued her faithful service to her Lord. There was but one thing kept Mrs. McKown from being in her accustomed place at the Sunday service, both morning and evening, and that was sickness, or some such circumstance which she could not prevent and although during the last year her sense of hearing had somewhat failed, that made no difference she there to worship and honor the Lord and Savior. For a number of years she was the treasurer of the Woman's Missionary society and was as anxious to meet the requirements of the church along that line as if it were her own personal obligation and was as happy when she received a contribution for that work as though is was a personal gift for herself. Her presence and service will be greatly missed in her church as well as in the home and community.
She died at the age of 59 years, 9 months and 10 days, cut down, it may seem to us, before her time, but He who doeth all things well, and who knows the future, as well as the past known best.
Funeral services were held on Friday, March 14, at 2:30 in the Presbyterian church of Farmington, with Rev, H. H. McLeod, pastor of the church conducting. The ball bearers were Joe Larson, Alex Empey, J. E. Price, C. B. Whittier, D. C. Michel and F. E. Henry—Excerpts taken from Dakota County Tribune, Farmington, Minnesota.
