Son of Albert A. and Sarah A. (Hornby) Swope. He helped organize and served as secretary/treasurer of the Farmer's Mutual Aid Association of Southern Indiana. He was a charter member of the Woodmen of the World and held membership for 62 years. He was the founder of the White Oak Camp 26 in Evansville, and served as secretary of the organization for several years. He also was Vanderburgh County Assessor for nine years until 1930. He was a member of McCutchanville Methodist Church
