Martha J. WALTON, 79, Life Care Center and formerly of 1003 E. 9th St., Rochester, died at 3 a.m. Friday at Life Care Center.
Born Jan. 21, 1924 in Alexandria to Harold and Geraldine DUNN DAY, she married James W. WALTON on Aug. 9, 1943 in Rochester. He preceded her in death Feb. 21, 1973.
With her husband, Mrs. Walton owned and operated Day Food Market in Rochester from 1959 to 1973. She was a legal secretary for Brown, Brown & Rakestraw law firm from 1973 to 1992.
She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and Tri Kappa Sorority and volunteered at United Ministries Food Pantry.
Survivors include one son, J. Christopher WALTON and wife, Suzanna, Cicero, Texas; two grandchildren, Abigail and Ethan WALTON, both of Cicero; and several nieces and nephews. One sister, Jerry DAVIS, preceded in death.
A Memorial service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, July 26, at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester, with Rev. Rick TAYLOR officiating. Interment will follow in the Rochester IOOF cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
