Bertha Cummings
Mrs. Bertha E. "Bess" CUMMINGS, 89, 317 West Eighth street, a lifetime resident of Rochester who was a sales clerk at the M. Wile and Sons store here for many years, died at 4 p.m. Friday in the Chase-Manor nursing home at Logansport. In ill health for five years, she had been in serious condition for one week. She had been at the nursing home since Aug. 1, 1968.
Mrs. Cummings was born Dec. 24, 1879 in Liberty township to John T. and Sarah A. COLLINS KEEL. She was married here to Warren N. CUMMINGS who died Nov. 26, 1950. A member of the First Christian church since 1912, she was a 60-year member of the Rebekah lodge and belonged to the Past Noble Grands culb, Spanish-American Auxiliary and the Patriotic club.
Surviving are two nephews, Carl B. KEEL, Rochester, and Myron O. KEEL, Chicago; a niece, Mrs. Ray (Chleo) GLASS, Rochester; five step-children, Audry CUMMINGS, Fort Wayne; Albert CUMMINGS, LaPorte; Mrs. Steve (Irene) HUNTER, Michigan City; Mrs. George (Edith) STEININGER, Yellow Creek Lake, and Mrs. Thurle (Glendola) ALBER, Rochester, and several step-grandchildren. Final rites will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home with the Rev. Josef PALAT officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery here. Friends may call at the funeral home after 11 a.m. Sunday.
