Mrs. Emma Bentz, well known lifelong Lebanonian, died suddenly just before noon on Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Archie Shuey, 118 South Tenth Street. A heart attack was ascribed as the cause of death and came as a profound shock to the immediate members of the family as the victim was apparently enjoying her usual good health when the attack came. She expired while seated in a chair shortly after the arrival of a physician. Born in this city the daughter of the late Richard and Leah (Leibig) Clark, Mrs. Bentz was the widow of Clayton Bentz, of this city. She was 76 years of age and for many years a well known and highly respected member of Seventh Street Lutheran Church. She was also affiliated with the Ladies Auxiliary of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen and was a member of Tulpekocken Council of Myerstown. In addition to the daughter with whom she made her home, the venerable local residence is survived by four sons, Daniel, Herman and George Bentz, all of this city and Russell Bentz of Scranton, one other daughter Mrs. Samuel Foltz, of Lebanon, twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She is also survived by a half-brother, Daniel Shay, of this city. [Lebanon Semi Weekly News, August 28, 1944]
