He married Margaret Cloudsdale at Kendal, Westmorland, England, on November 12, 1812. All of their nine children were born in England, the first three, Sarah, Elizabeth and a first Margaret, died there. The family came to America in 1834 and settled in Orleans County. After Margaret's death, David resided with his son John.
